JAKARTA — June 13, 2021 brought great sadness with the passing of Prof. Dr. Toeti Heraty N. Roosseno at the age of 87. She was a deeply respected figure. Notably, she served as the President Director of Biro Oktroi Roosseno, Indonesia Intellectual Property Consultant.
In addition to her corporate leadership, she was a pioneer. She stood as one of the first generation of Indonesian feminist thinkers. She was also a great poet, writer, philanthropist, and philosopher.
Furthermore, she was a dedicated professor and an outstanding leader. Her visionary leadership continuously guides our standards as a premier intellectual property consultant Indonesia.
Therefore, to commemorate her profound thoughts, a special event is being held. Cemara 6 Galeri – Toeti Heraty Museum is currently organizing an archive exhibition titled “Aku dalam Budaya” (The Self Within Culture).
Toeti Heraty made significant contributions to Indonesian thought and culture. For instance, one of her most renowned contributions is her academic dissertation, “Aku dalam Budaya.” This groundbreaking work focused deeply on cultural philosophy theory and methodology.
The dissertation earned her a Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University of Indonesia. Consequently, this milestone made her the first woman in Indonesia to attain a PhD in Philosophy.
This historic dissertation was first published by Pustaka Jaya in 1984. Later, it was reissued in 2013.
The current exhibition successfully gathers 250 cultural writings authored by Toeti Heraty. These archives span from 1961 until her passing in 2021.
The event takes place at Cemara 6 Galeri – Toeti Heraty Museum. The museum is located at Jl. HOS Cokroaminoto No. 9-11, Menteng, Jakarta Pusat. Visitors can attend the exhibition from June 13 to July 13, 2024.
This milestone exhibition was officially inaugurated by Hilmar Farid, the Director General of Culture. Interestingly, he was also one of Toeti Heraty’s former students at the university.
The exhibition is beautifully curated by Dhianita Kusuma Pertiwi. It features a wide variety of rare archives. For example, visitors can explore historic photos, timelines, comprehensive bibliographies, and selected books.
In addition, the gallery displays her personal essays, documentary videos, and sentimental objects from her residence. The event also features expert speakers from various fields. These speakers perfectly reflect her multi-faceted contributions to education, arts, philosophy, politics, and business.
