JAKARTA — On June 24, 2024, an important initiative for local businesses took place. The Directorate General of Intellectual Property (DGIP) successfully held the Strategic Intellectual Property Assist Program at the Manhattan Hotel, Jakarta.

This event was a major collaborative effort. The DGIP worked together with the World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO) and the Japan Patent Office (JPO). Furthermore, the program specifically aimed at bolstering Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Indonesia.

The event gathered 110 participants. These entrepreneurs represented various sectors crucial to Indonesia’s economic landscape. For instance, some attendees were MSMEs affiliated with the Association of Indonesian Women Entrepreneurs and Jakpreneur.

In addition, representatives from the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy attended. The Department of Industry, Trade, Cooperatives, and Small and Medium Enterprises, alongside Mandiri Bank, also supported the event.

Unlocking the Commercial Value of IP

The program was spearheaded by WIPO. Therefore, it was tailored to equip entrepreneurs with essential tools. These tools help them navigate and leverage IP systems domestically and internationally.

“In this activity, participants will learn how to identify, protect, and commercialize their intellectual property products effectively,” remarked the Director of Patents, Integrated Circuit Layout Design (DTLST), and Trade Secrets.

This clear emphasis on optimizing product value underscores the program’s commitment. It aims to foster sustainable growth within the MSME sector.

Consequently, for businesses looking to scale up, action is needed. Consulting with a trusted intellectual property consultant Indonesia is the vital next step. This partnership will turn creative insights into enforceable legal rights.

Government Support for Local Brands

The government deeply values IP registration. To highlight this, the Secretary of the Department of Industry, Trade, Cooperatives, Small and Medium Enterprises of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government affirmed the local authority’s stance.

“Protecting ideas and information of commercial value is paramount for MSMEs,” she stated. “Therefore, our province supports brand registration initiatives. We aim at safeguarding and promoting the products of local entrepreneurs.”

In addition to advocating for IP rights, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government acts directly. They actively assist MSMEs in brand development. This support successfully enhances market presence.

As a result, this integrated approach ensures that businesses thrive locally. Moreover, it helps them establish a robust reputation that extends beyond regional boundaries. Whether through professional trademark registration services or securing a patent filing in Indonesia, local businesses must protect their assets early.

Fostering Global Competitiveness

The event also featured insights from global leaders. For example, the Director of the WIPO Singapore Office encouraged active dialogue among participants.

“Through this program, we aim to empower MSMEs,” he affirmed. “We do this by providing expert guidance on navigating IP systems. Thus, we can unlock the latent value of intangible assets.”

His sentiments were strongly echoed by the Japan Patent Office. The Director of the International Cooperation Division underscored the program’s vital role. He noted that it fosters an enabling environment for MSMEs and startups to flourish.

As a leading Indonesia IP law firm, Biro Oktroi Roosseno highly commends this international collaboration. Nurturing entrepreneurship requires a solid legal foundation. By equipping MSMEs with the right resources, this program safeguards innovation. Ultimately, it propels economic growth on a global scale.
